Presentation Complete
Ah, what a sence of accomplishment. I gave my CIT499 presentation today, and I feel like it went well.  It was very interesting to me to watch everyone else’s presentations as well (and see how in some ways they related to mine). I uploaded my presentation to sladeshare.com they can be found here. Overall I think the presentation wen well and I learned a lot about emerging technologies. I...

...Still working on the project
I spent all day after work today trying to get caught up on my project. I finished writing my paper 2 days ago, but I’m still getting my slides together for the presentation. I am excited about it, but also nervious since I’m not sure who will be there (Dr. Ho invited IUPUI faculty).  I’m sure all will go well. Anyway It’s all coming together nicely and I’m ready for...

Class 4/29/2009
Today we began with current events and I am very glad to hear that IUPUI UITS is confronting accessing content mobily. I have long wanted to access Oncourse from my iTouch, and I can only hope that by the time my brother graduates they have fully implemented this. After current events Dustin presented his course project on mashups. I really like the way he was able to aggregate all the...

Todays Class
Today we began with current events including a new policy of facebook to alow vendors access to user posted data. This will allow 3rd part vendors to create apps that interact with facebook (and twitter). Also Dr. Ho recomended ____ (sycronize desktop?) We then moved on to a reading from John Freedmans ____ and how technology can bring people together, but also seperate them. He covered chapter...

Class 04/22/09
We began class with current events including earth day, and information about an audio blog in the next class. Next we heard about Google Profiler, and the ideology that everyone will leave an internet trail that develops an online identity. The only choice you have is what content will be in abundance. Tim Burnace Lee’s idea of linked data has been consumed by concepts that hare not as...

Class Today
I missed class today, but after listening to the podcasts I have a few comments to make. First off it was mentioned that there is a judge in Mississippi who has sentenced a criminal to tweet (http://preview.tinyurl.com/ddvoo4). I think this is a little stupid, but not quite sure how posting what he is doing every 10 minutes tells his parole officer where he is. Also the Lijit search was...

Lijit search
On Monday this week Dr. Ho showed us a new tool called Lijit. Its placed on your blog (similar to disqus comments) and allows viewers to search not only your blog, but also any other rss string you tied to the Lijit tools. We applied this to our lifestream so that anyone viewing my blog and also search my personal brand. Only problem was the Lijit tool was not returning any results. I thought this...

1 Week with ANGEL
I’ve been at my new job for about a week now, and I’m very excited about it. They are reorganizing their entire support structure so that it is scalable. Their old model only worked until they reached a certain number of customers, but they have been growing quickly and have outgrown it. They hired me on just before they switched structures so I spent the majority of the is week...

Working SaaS
This posting has less to do with my CIT499 project than most my posting, but there is a little relation. My time has been cut very short recently after I accepted a new job as a software analyst working for a company based in Indy, Angel Learning. Angel has been around for about 10 years now and has received “Best Place to Work in Indiana” the last two years in a row. I am so excited...

Keeping Track of Sources
Early on in the project phase I was searching for sources and people to follow using twitter and used and RSS feed to watch “software as a service” and “software + services” and it is remarkable how well this worked out for me. I have found several blogs and a lot of usefull information. I reciently went back to this because I felt like I was still missing A LOT of...

Too many blogs.....there must be a solution
After Monday’s class I’ve taken a first step toward forcing myself to comment on the blogs of my class mates. I used yahoo pipes and created a mashup of all the RSS feeds for the blogs I need to follow/comment. Hopefully after I add this to my iGoogle homepage I will see them and start commenting more (at least thats the idea). I was going to also include the RSS feeds for lifestreems,...

Software with what?
I have been very busy gathering resources on the topics of my course project, and am now in the home stretch. I devised an outline for the flow of the paper…. The focus of the projected project is to be on the development of SaaS and S+S over the past couple years.  Explaining their advantages and disadvantages, and how corporations (google/Microsoft) are using the tools to their full potential....

Saas v.s. S+S
It has been a while since my lat posting; don’t let this lead you to believe progress has not been made. I have narrowed my project specifications to the application of SaaS in business and where it is going vs. software plus services in the business place and where it is going. I will also attempt to analyze the future of these platforms by looking forward to what they will have to do in...

Douglas Karr visits CIT499
On Monday my CIT499 class was fortunate enough to have Douglas Karr (@douglaskarr), Vice President of Blogging Evangelism and President of DKNew Media, as a guest speaker.  He had soo much information to give and it was easy to see he really loves what he does. He focused mainly on social networking & bloging and its effects in the business place.  When business began creating social...

Project Proposal
So I have officially fixed my course project topic, and have begun research. I plan on researching the topic of software as a service (SaaS). This will include the development, current applications, advantages, disadvantages, competition, and predicted future of SaaS. As I proceed through the semester and better understand SaaS as a process it is possible I will need to add or combine these...

Finally A Topic
I spoke with Dr. Thomas Ho last Wednesday and I plan on doing a project towards software as a service (SaaS). Since I have focused mainly on programming and system development through my 5 years at IUPUI I am very excited to learn more about the direction this is going. Now all I have to do is get my proposal together. Hurray for picking a topic!!
